When most people think about Goodwill of Greater Washington (Goodwill), they probably envision one of our 22 retail stores or donation centers.  They're certainly the most visible part of our operations. However, the revenue from the sale of donated goods at our stores funds our important workforce development mission.  94 cents of every dollar Goodwill earns is funneled back into our employment, education, and training programs and services. However, a lot more goes into supporting the mission than many realize.

At Goodwill, not only do we provide education, jobs, and job training to people with disabilities or disadvantages, but we also offer many unique administrative roles that you probably weren't even aware of.

While we offer jobs in finance, people and culture, IT, and marketing, we also offer careers in retail expansion—the team that finds, negotiates, and contracts for new retail stores and other brick-and-mortar facilities. Our marketing team includes a role in special events and donor acquisition, which is focused on enhancing our presence, visibility, and donor engagement in the community outside of the donation centers attached to our stores.

Goodwill operates a sustainability center where we recycle glass, plastic, books, cardboard, and computers. We also offer careers and career training in sustainability services or "green jobs."

At our Goodwill Excel Center, we operate two adult charter high schools where we help students earn their high school diplomas.  The Excel Center is the only adult charter high school in the District of Columbia that awards a high school diploma rather than a GED.  The school offers careers in education, school administration, and even daycare operations because each campus operates a free YMCA daycare center for students with young children.

At our new warehouse in suburban Virginia, we operate a large e-commerce operation where unique merchandise is posted online for sale through ShopGoodwill.com.  Ever thought about being a quality control manager, identifying the items worth selling online, or being one of the many skilled and knowledgeable researchers who help us determine the value of unique collectibles? Yes, Goodwill does that!

In addition, our team members really enjoy their Goodwill careers. In a recent employee satisfaction survey of our 1000+ team members, 91% of respondents indicated that they believe they are making a difference in people's lives through their work at Goodwill; 92% believe that Goodwill values diversity and provides an inclusive work environment where all are welcomed regardless of appearance, backgrounds, beliefs, thoughts, and approaches; and 90% say that they are proud to work at Goodwill.

Goodwill of Greater Washington is far more than its thrift stores.  We are a caring, local nonprofit that operates a diverse line of businesses that all support our workforce development mission right here in the greater DC area community. And we are mighty proud of it! Open doors for more talent, not close them.
