Kristen Strain serves as the General Counsel and Corporate Compliance Officer for Goodwill of Greater Washington, a role she assumed in September 2025. In this capacity, she oversees all legal operations, governance matters, regulatory compliance, and organizational risk management for Goodwill’s nonprofit enterprises, including its education and workforce development initiatives.
Strain brings more than 20 years of legal leadership experience across the nonprofit, public-interest, and private sectors. Prior to joining Goodwill, she served as Co-General Counsel and Associate General Counsel at HIAS, where she managed a broad portfolio of legal, compliance, and organizational strategy responsibilities. Earlier in her career, she was the Executive Director of the Tahirih Justice Center in Baltimore, leading immigration legal services, client advocacy, and community outreach. She also spent more than a decade in private practice, specializing in litigation and national defense strategies for complex cases.
Kristen holds a Juris Doctor from Loyola Law School and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Anthropology from The College of Wooster. Known for her commitment to mission-driven service, she has built a career centered on advancing justice, strengthening organizational integrity, and supporting communities through effective legal stewardship.
