WASHINGTON — On Saturday, May 9th, Goodwill® of Greater Washington (Goodwill) will celebrate the grand opening of its newest retail store and donation center at 5520 Randolph Road, Rockville, Maryland in the Montrose Crossing Shopping Center. This will be the 3rd Goodwill location in Rockville, Maryland, and the 24th area location operated by Goodwill of Greater Washington.
The grand opening will begin at 9:00 AM (ribbon cutting at 8:45 AM) on May 9th, and the event will feature shopper discounts, a DJ, games and giveaways, as well as free snacks and beverages while supplies last.
The nonprofit agency hopes to offer the residents of Rockville not only another place to thrift shop for quality donated goods at great prices but also an additional destination to donate apparel and household goods that have outgrown their homes. Every investment in Goodwill helps fund jobs, job training, and education services for people facing barriers to employment right here in the DMV.
“Goodwill of Greater Washington is proud to be adding another nonprofit store and donation center in Rockville, Maryland to our growing retail footprint”, said Brendan Hurley, Goodwill of Greater Washington Chief Marketing Officer. “94 cents out of every dollar we earn goes towards our education and employment services, so every item donated and sold at our new Rockville location will have a positive and meaningful impact on our local community.”
In addition to jobs and job training opportunities, Goodwill operates an adult charter high school (with two campuses) called The Goodwill Excel Center.
Donor support for Goodwill also creates a more sustainable community by further reducing the amount of material sent to our local landfills through the operation of a sustainability center that recycles plastic, glass, computers, cardboard, and books. In 2024 Goodwill of Greater Washington resold, repurposed, or recycled more than 48 million pounds of material goods.
Approximately 30 new jobs will be created through the opening of the new store and donation center. Interested candidates can apply at dcgoodwill.org.
