When I joined Goodwill of Greater Washington as the Communications Specialist, I was overjoyed to learn that part of the organization's mission is to assist current GGW employees with personal and career growth and development. As a Nonprofit Communications professional, I am always seeking opportunities to learn, engage, and network with like-minded, career-driven individuals, and with the Marketing world constantly evolving and growing, I knew PRocon was the perfect conference to meet all my needs in one.

From the moment I walked into the venue, there was an electric buzz in the air. The atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm and anticipation as professionals from diverse communications backgrounds gathered to share their insights and experiences. The conference hall was a melting pot of ideas, with every corner buzzing with conversations about the latest trends, challenges, and innovations in the industry.

What is PRocon?

Now, what is PRocon, you ask? PRocon is a conference taking place every year in the DMV area that brings together Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, and Media professionals from around the globe. The event is tailored to foster learning through expert-led sessions, interactive workshops, and panel discussions. Additionally, PRocon serves as a networking hub where attendees can engage with peers, share insights, and discover new opportunities.

First established in 2021, the founder of PRocon and The PR Alliance, Keisha Brewer felt a need to develop a community that provides inspiring Communications professionals access to vital information that will help them thrive in their careers; and within three short years, she’s done exactly that!

Learning from the best

One of the most impactful aspects of PRocon was the lineup of keynote speakers and workshops. Renowned industry leaders took to the stage, each bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience. Their presentations covered a broad spectrum of topics, from the evolving landscape of digital media to strategically showing attendees how to build and maintain both a personal and professional brand.

I particularly enjoyed the fireside chat with celebrity publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure. Hearing Yvette speak of the early years of her career working with mainstream artists such as Mariah Carey, Destiny’s Child, Chole, and Halle Bailey was nothing short of amazing. The candid conversation was both enlightening and encouraging as she described the adversity she’s faced over the course of her career and how she’s been able to pivot, lean, and move forward over the years.

Reflect

As I reflect on my time at PRocon, I am filled with a renewed sense of purpose and excitement for the future. The conference not only provided valuable knowledge and insights but also reinforced the importance of community and collaboration in our field. It was a reminder that, despite the rapid changes in the media landscape, the core principles of effective communication and relationship-building remain constant.

In conclusion, attending PRocon was nothing short of transformative. PRocon exceeded my expectations on all fronts, offering an authentic and enriching space that left me inspired and motivated. I am grateful for the opportunity to gain experience from industry leaders, connect with fellow professionals, and explore the innovations shaping our field. I look forward to applying the lessons learned such as storytelling, showing up for your community, and branding within my role here at Goodwill to increase engagement and visibility for our caring, local nonprofit.
