Supporter Spotlight: accenture

The mission of Goodwill of Greater Washington is to transform lives and communities through the power of education and employment. Its network of retail stores, donation centers, schools, and contract sites not only provides jobs to over 1,000 community members, many of whom have barriers to employment, but also serves to advance greener practices in the DC region. Goodwill’s sustainability initiatives bring purpose to the donated goods that cannot be sold in its retail stores, ensuring that these items do not end up in landfills.

Goodwill collects, processes, and recycles goods such as plastic film, glass, cardboard, computer electronics, and more. Through these sustainability efforts, Goodwill is on track to keep 45 million pounds of materials out of local landfills and waterways in 2024. This includes the collection of over 7 million plastic bags, which are turned into sustainable decking through a partnership with the company Trex, and the introduction of a glass pulverizer that will convert unsellable glass material into sand that can be used in construction projects.

Partnerships and support from organizations with shared goals are at the heart of this work. Goodwill is grateful to supporters like Accenture, who help advance the mission of sustainability, skill-building, and education.
