Capital Area Food Bank and Goodwill: Unique Partnership in Unique Times
Goodwill of Greater Washington recently began a partnership with the Capital Area Food Bank helping to distribute more than 9,000 meals to the Greater Washington community. After Goodwill learned the Food Bank had a shortage of trucks and ways to deliver food, we jumped in to offer our services.
Since May 14th, Goodwill has provided numerous 26-foot-long trucks and our associates have picked up thousands of prepackaged meals from the Capital Area Food Bank’s Headquarters in NE DC and distributed them to various organizations throughout the Greater Washington community. These organizations include: the DC Government Department of Human Services, So Others Might Eat, Plenty to Eat, Casa Ruby, CHV Tenant Association, District 2 of Prince George’s County, Turner AME Church, Walker Memorial Baptist Church, Urban Outreach, Inc., and many more. To date, Goodwill has delivered 212 palettes of food and 600 boxes of produce – providing over 9,075 meals to feed 36,300 of our neighbors.
“No one has ever seen anything like this moment, and it requires new and innovative solutions to manage unprecedented challenges,” said Radha Muthiah, CEO of the Capital Area Food Bank. “The incredible increase in need in our region means we’re distributing more food than ever, and the creative partnership we’ve formed with Goodwill of Greater Washington is a key part of making those logistics work.”
Goodwill of Greater Washington is proud to partner with the Capital Area Food Bank in carrying out this vital work. During a time of great uncertainty, Goodwill is committed to standing with our neighbors in any way we can. We look forward to continuing this work and serving our neighbors in need.
