WASHINGTON — Goodwill® of Greater Washington (Goodwill) is moving its only DC retail store and donation center to 1403 New York Avenue, NE, Washington, DC, in the space formerly occupied by Nike. The new store will officially open its doors on Saturday, November 9th and begin accepting donations on Monday, November 11th. Donations will also continue to be accepted at the original location (2200 South Dakota Avenue, NE, DC) until further notice.
“Goodwill of Greater Washington is excited to be moving its DC store and donation center to a location with such easy access and high visibility”, said Brendan Hurley, Goodwill of Greater Washington Chief of Collaboration, Communication, and Marketing. “91 cents out of every dollar Goodwill earns goes towards our mission services, so every item donated and sold at our New York Avenue location will have a positive and measurable impact on our local community while also keeping unwanted material out of area landfills.”
The new location replaces the recently closed store at 2200 South Dakota Avenue, NE. The nonprofit agency hopes to offer DC residents not only a more convenient place to find quality donated goods at great prices but also an easily accessible destination to donate apparel and household goods that have outgrown their homes. Every investment in Goodwill helps fund jobs, job training, education, and supportive services for people facing barriers to employment – a critical need in the DC region.
In addition to the retail store and donation center, the local nonprofit agency also operates two adult charter high school campuses in DC: The Goodwill Excel Center.
Donor support for Goodwill creates a more sustainable community by further reducing the amount of material sent to our local landfills. In 2023, Goodwill of Greater Washington resold, repurposed, or recycled more than 45 million pounds of material goods.
