Arlington, VA: On Monday, October 27, in partnership with Affordable Homes & Communities (AHC), Goodwill of Greater Washington’s flagship store and donation center at 10 South Glebe Road will temporarily close. Critically needed, service-enriched, affordable housing and a new, world-class retail store and donation center will be built on the existing store’s site.

"This is the first Goodwill and affordable housing co-location of its kind in the country, setting a precedent for the power of mission-aligned, local, nonprofit partnerships,” said Catherine Meloy, President and CEO of Goodwill of Greater Washington. “Through this initiative, Goodwill aims to tackle major barriers to employment: affordable housing and childcare, while also offering a state-of-the-art donation and shopping experience for our community. While we’re sad to tear down the walls of this community landmark, we’re excited for the futures it will inspire!”

The redevelopment plans received support from County commissioners, area residents, local nonprofits, and other regional affordable housing organizations in 2024.

“This innovative collaboration with Goodwill of Greater Washington reflects AHC’s ongoing commitment to partnering with mission-driven organizations to create housing with holistic services,” said Paul Bernard, AHC President & CEO. “We also appreciate the strong community support helping to bring this vision to life.”
